Vehicular Access and Servicing
To facilitate the intensification of the area, and maximise the use of land, an approach to vehicular access and servicing is propsoed that seeks to reduce the dominance of vehicles and assists with the objective of pedestrian prioritisation.
Main Vehicular Access
Canute Road and Ocean Way form the primary vehicular spines of the Ocean Village Quarter, acting as the main routes through the area. They provide connections to the ABP Port access, the multi-storey car park (MSCP), and the local and restricted access roads, ensuring clear and efficient movement throughout the site.
Servicing and Local Access
The remainder of the network within the Ocean Village Quarter is proposed as a shared-surface, pedestrian-priority environment. These routes will provide local access to developments and accommodate servicing and deliveries whilemaintaining a low-traffic, people-focused setting.
Active Travel and Public Transport
Aligned with an approach to the reduction in private vehicles must be serious alternatives to car-based travel. This must align with wider city and regional projects including the proposed Mass Rapid Transit scheme and any future upgrades to the rail network.
Public Transport
There are several potential public transport improvements within the Ocean Village Quarter, including new bus stops and a possible mobility hub linked to the MSCP offering micro-mobility options. There is also potential for an MRT stop on Canute Road, improving sustainable connectivity across the area.
Active Travel
The neighbourhood will prioritise pedestrians, proposing to create a highly walkable environment supported by a fine-grained network of routes. This propsoed active travel framework will improve access to the waterfront and connect a series of green spaces, encouraging walking and cycling throughout the area.
