Overview

Central to the Ocean Village Quarter vision is the creation of extensive new areas of greener and more active public realm with improved connectivity to the waterfront. This includes the following requirements:

 Destination and Land Uses

A primary objective for the long term renewal of the Ocean Village Quarter will be to create a sequence of destinations that draw people to the waterfront. This should encourage active non residential uses throughout the development, providing both destination activities and employment opportunities. In addition the long term potential exists to consider anchor uses across the quarter. While flexibility is required, this could for example include:

• Relocation of the Solent Sky Museum to a new home (potentially the Victorian railway building opposite).

• Encouraging hospitality, food and beverage to complement the comparatively modest offer that OVQ currently has.

• Consideration of other cultural or tourism destinations, potential aligned to increasing numbers of cruise passengers visiting the city.

• Considering a sequence of public art throughout the enhanced public realm.

• Other leisure and entertainment destinations and assets, including potential for replacement cinema faciltiies.

• Provision of sport facilities including gym and court facilities for the benefit of the local community and visitors.
